Cool tool installment #1: Bolo Software (Junglebuzz category: Media dbs + Media Monitoring)

The bolo website asks you to imagine Cision, Google Alerts, & Yammer working together and then defines itself as “your media search and sharing engine.” We’ll try to give you some specifics here and encourage you to check them out.

First, cost: they’re free for team of 10 persons or less!

Bolo is known for their technology reporter coverage. They’ve recently started covering biotech and healthcare as well, starting with profiles of the top 100 beat writers and 30 outlets that cover biotech. So it makes them a great choice to consider if your practice is very niche-oriented. Their database includes the “tent poles” like Scientific American and Nature to the specialized biotech outlets that often aren’t included in standard media databases. You can see the full list on their blog.

Here’s what they say makes them different:

Full-Text Article Database: Search newsmakers by the keywords they use instead of ‘beats’

Seamless Twitter Search: Advanced search features for author & outlet feeds.

Intuitive Coverage Reports: Generate coverage reports using Compete™ UMVs and sentiment analysis in minutes

Optimized Real World Workflow: Create and share up-to-date lists and notes within your organization.

We Know Top Influencers: We focus on national and subject thought leaders.

Gmail Integration: Gmail/Chrome Integration. Use our gmail plugin for topline intel in your chrome sidebar.

We’ve added bolo to the Media Database category and we’ll be adding pricing information soon.
