Find Free PR Tools: We Finally Finished the “Free” Filters (And Yes, It Took Longer than I Thought)

Total views:

If you’ve been following PRToolFinder for any length of time, you know we’re a little obsessed with structure.

Structured categories.

Structured discovery.

Structured evaluation.

So, it probably won’t surprise you that I’m extremely excited to say:

We finally finished implementing the filters that surface Free PR Tools and PR Tools with Free Trials.

And not just for one category.

For all 29.

Every user — including the free tier — can now instantly filter across the entire PRToolFinder database to see which tools offer:

  • A forever-free version
  • A limited free plan
  • A free trial

Across every PR tool category. Yes. All of them. And when we add a new category (alert: new category coming soon) it will also have the filters!

This Started with a User Request

The best ideas usually do.

Someone asked if there was a way to quickly find free PR tools across categories — without clicking into every vendor site individually.

No. And honestly? They were right, there should be.

Because while plenty of vendors have bid on the key words “free PR tools” they’re not the ones that actually have them.  If you’ve ever tried to find free options in PR tech, you know it’s not exactly a one-click experience.

AI can give you suggestions.

Search engines can give you results.

Vendor marketplaces can give you sponsored lists.

But no one was offering structured, cross-category filters specifically designed for PR professionals trying to:

  • Start with “free”
  • Test before committing
  • Run a proof of concept
  • Work within budget constraints
  • Evaluate tools without pressure

So, we built it.

Sometimes You Really Do Have to Start With “Free”

In PR, especially if you’re solo, in small teams, nonprofits, agencies, and startups — the evaluation process often begins with:

“Is there a free version?”

“Can I test this before I bring it to my team?”

“Is there a trial I can evaluate this week?”

And that makes perfect sense.

Because before a large enterprise makes a buy decision, they almost always want:

  • A free trial
  • A pilot program
  • A proof of concept
  • A sandbox environment

That just makes good sense.

So, whether you’re:

  • A solo PR pro or startup building your first media list
  • An agency testing a new monitoring platform
  • An in-house team exploring AI tools
  • Or an enterprise validating vendors before a contract

These filters remove friction at the very top of the funnel.

Why This Matters Right Now

The PR tech landscape is expanding fast:

  • Media monitoring platforms
  • AI-assisted content tools
  • Podcast databases
  • Journalist networks
  • Influencer Marketing tools

We know choice is good, but research shows professionals spend a significant amount of time searching for tools and information. And when you add pricing transparency, that search time grows.

PRToolFinder addresses all of these issues but you don’t have to be a paying member to take advantage of the new filters (paid subscribers have access to pricing/key features/forum). All users, even in the free tier which does not require registration, can now instantly see which tools offer free access across:

Why I’m Personally Excited

This update aligns perfectly with what PRToolFinder was built to do:

Make PR technology easier to find and evaluate

Reduce research time.

Bring structure to a fragmented ecosystem.

And keep vendor listings independent.

It also feels good to ship something that came directly from a user idea. That’s the kind of feedback loop I love.

Give the filters a test drive, why don’t you?

I’d love to hear what you discover.
